About Us
Who We Are
Yew Tree Stone is a specialist Memorial Masonry company founded in 2012 in Bexhill-On-Sea and over the past eleven years has built an enviable reputation for supplying high quality memorials, backed up by excellent workmanship and first class customer service. The Company is owned and run by Howard Whitelaw & James Young.
In 2015 we moved to larger premises in Bodiam and from here we serve the communities of Kent, Sussex & parts of Surrey, providing excellent service & value for money. But just because we are a young company that doesn’t mean we don’t know what we are talking about. Our team have over 60 years experience in the industry between them, so there is not much we haven’t seen or come across.
We are fully insured, all of our fixers are City & Guilds qualified and all memorials come with a 20 year fixing guarantee – compare that to our competitors.
We are also registered to work in Cemeteries and Churchyards throughout the South East Region, so you can use Yew Tree Stone, safe in the knowledge that we will look after you, your order and your memories.
Howard Whitelaw
Howard left school at 15 to become a Trainee Baker but decided to leave the profession when he was told he would be expected to start at 2am when he was 18! He then went into the engineering industry for 5 years before spending 15 years in sales, distribution and customer service management positions for a leading plastics manufacturer.
In 2004 he decided on a change of direction and became a Memorials Manager for the largest independent Stonemason in Kent, ensuring they became the first company listed on the British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons (BRAMM) in East Sussex, before being made redundant in 2012, when he started Yew Tree Stone with James.
In addition to a wealth of experience in a variety of markets, both at home and abroad, Howard also holds qualifications in Marketing, Customer Service, IT, Transport and is a City & Guilds qualified Memorial Fixer.
James Young
James has previously worked as an Estate Agent, in warehousing, retail and administration but found his niche in 2010 when he took a job within the Stonemasonry industry.
For a short time initially, James was finishing and fitting kitchen worktops, before concentrating entirely on producing, sandblasting, finishing and fixing memorials.
James also latterly gained experience in the administration side of the business, but prefers to be hands on with the stone. James is a City & Guilds qualified Memorial Fixer.
